Our experience with kestrels is limited to a single instance in which they used a 25 litre drum-design box intended for kookaburras.

The kestrel would probably use a smaller box, but the size of the female suggests that it would still be larger than any we are now offering.

Kestrels are birds of the open grasslands, which suggests that a box should be sited in an open situation.

Nothing else about their particular requirements, if there are any, is known.
